Today we thought we’d be smart by avoiding the stampede of shoppers in Brighton, and take it easy in Hove instead. We hopped on the 49 down Church Road and found ourselves at the delightful Treacle and Co, tucked away opposite Tesco (blink and you’ll miss it). Pipsqueak and I (once acquainted with our table friend Goosey Lucy), devoured sausage and onion chutney on sour dough, followed by good old Victoria sponge (it beat us! Now that’s a first).
Tummies full and feeling smug not to be sweating in Churchill Shopping Centre, we hit the beach. Apart from a few dedicated dog walkers, it was just us. We walked for as long as pipsqueak’s little legs would carry her. The beaches of Brighton are awesome in the winter. After collecting a few choice shells and a lesson in ice skating on pebbles, it was time to go home.
