Weeks ago I put Harper’s name down for an author signing at our favourite kids book shop, the Book Nook. Half term was coming and I wanted to avoid freezing my backside off at the park. Every. Single. Day. The Book Nook is a cute little shop, just off of Church Road in Hove and minutes from the sea front.
It has a teashop at the back- with a pirate ship play area filled with toys and books and the shop itself is stocked with a great selection of titles. We’ve been in many times before and the helpful staff have recommended some fantastic reads for my ever-growing book worm.
But today we were there specifically for the author signing and the promise of activities afterwards. Well brownie points to me, the author was only Abie Longstaff, the author of H’s beloved Kitty Lacey picture books. Great half terming mama!
Whilst we waited for Abie to come out, we had a browse and tried to wittle down which books we should take home and which Kitty Lacey book we could get autographed.
Abie turned out to be a lovely local lady, she had about a dozen or so little girls transfixed with her latest title ‘The Fairy Tale Hairdresser and Beauty and the Beast’. She taught the girls all about her thought process, how she works and what inspires her. They all got to have a little peek at her scrapbooks and notebooks full of ideas, it was really sweet that they had an insight into how an actual writer works. Afterwards, Abie pulled out a selection of dolls, brushes and clips which the girls were in heaven with, working their inner Kitty Lacey skills and combing and clipping away.
A fabulous morning had and a new book for H to get her teeth into (we went for the Magic Potions Shop: Young Apprentice). The Book Nook is well worth checking out, follow them on Facebook as they often have fun events and and you will always come away with a good read or two.
